With BlueEdgeSM, your clients have secure access to online tools to help manage their health care benefit plan. Employees have secure access to online tools to help them decide if BlueEdge is right for them and resources to help them manage their plan and health care after enrollment.

Blue Access for EmployersSM

Blue Access for Employers lets your clients review membership, employee eligibility and activity, billing, account summary and product information; make membership changes; and request reports.

BlueEdge Advisor

For members, the BlueEdge Advisor: Health Care Budget tool asks questions about health and health care expenses to see how BlueEdge will fit their budget.

Blue Access for MembersSM

Blue Access for Members enables BlueEdge members to review the status of their Health Care Accounts (including current balance, payments made to date and year-to-year rollover amounts), check the status of a claim, view the explanation of medical benefits and confirm who is covered under their plan. Members can receive an e-mail when Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois finalizes their claims and opt to stop receiving paper copies of Explanation of Benefits.

The Hospital Comparison Tool

Found within Blue Access for Members, the Hospital Comparison Tool lets members quickly compare hospitals, based on specific diagnoses and procedures. Members can search and compare hospital performance factors such as length-of-stay, the number of procedures performed and complication rates.

Mayo Clinic

Extensive health and wellness information from Mayo Clinic* is available through Blue Access for Members. Health and wellness resources include:

  • A Health Risk Assessment that evaluates members’ health status and gives them personalized health information and guidance
  • Self-management tools for common health care problems, such as asthma, low back pain and headaches
  • Information about specific conditions, diseases and treatments, including alternative medicine
  • Interactive health and lifestyle tools to help members lose weight, quit smoking and start an exercise program
  • Decision-making tools to help members understand medical treatments

Personal Health Resources

An online tool enables employees to set up a personal health record to keep track of their health information within Blue Access for Members. With the employee’s permission, this record can be accessed by their doctors, family and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois nurses to facilitate their care. Employees can receive wellness advice such as alerts for screening tests and vaccinations and targeted e-mails to help them better manage their condition.

Welcome Call

Within one month of enrollment, employees receive a call from a BlueEdge expert to help them better understand BlueEdge and how to maximize the benefits of BlueEdge. The welcome call provides a convenient opportunity to get answers to questions that employees may have about their health plan.
